So what do you think about the upcoming steam hardware? I’m mainly referring to the controller and the link—seems like they’re decent, especially the link, as long as you have enough bandwidth. Maybe I’ll get the controller myself if it’s better than an Xbox one. What do you all think of these things? (Also, steam machines are still pretty expensive for a living room PC.)
The 860m in the top-end Alienware models is just underwhelming...
yeah, the controller is the only real interesting thing they plan to release, altough the reviews will make it or break it. IIRC linus(or luke) had a chance to try the original concept, which seemed to work pretty well once you got used to it. damn... that's really a joke yeah, they didnt release any specs here yet though, although the cheapest machine from AW is 500 dollar with a "high-end" Nvidea gpu that has 2gb vram
I can't really evaluate a controller without trying it myself. The goal is to support more genres like FPS and RTS from home. The initial design didn't appeal to me, but the newest version impresses with its haptic feedback trackpad and analog stick. Still, my thoughts aren't strong until I've used it long enough to overcome the learning phase. Regarding the steam machines, I expect their specifications to shift notably when they release. In any case, it seems unlikely that this will attract the kind of attention from forum members—we're more about building ourselves than buying ready-made units.
