Loading games, moving them via the network, nearly everything connected to Steam on this SSD is extremely slow. I attempted a reinstall and even transferred the drive to another machine, but the issue remains. Epic Games titles work without problems, DRM-free games are fine, this only happens with Steam. Did I set something wrong? What’s the problem here? The SSD is a 1TB Lexar NM610 Pro. I really think optimizing my system specs doesn’t help since the issue also appears on my laptop, but here it does. The system I’m using is AsRock B450 Pro4 R2.0 with 2x8GB DDR4-3200, 512GB Teamgroup SSD in the Hyper M.2 slot (OS and Steam), and a 1TB Lexar NM610 Pro in the bottom M.2 slot (for games). Launching Shadow of the Tomb Raider causes the SSD to reach full speed, but read speeds are very slow and loading times are long. CrystalDiskMark confirms the SSD can hit max speed (it’s a Gen3x4 on a Gen 3x2 slot). Task Manager shows the game is using the most disk space, with two SSDs present, so it reads only 50% while the other is idle. Moving games from this SSD to another computer over the network is also very slow. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
It seems this might be a page file or something similar. Your RAM usage is unusually high—have you tried closing Chrome?
heavy paging should only really happen once you're properly maxed out, he's still got 4-ish GB of headroom there. on topic; is it 'only steam games' - or do you not have big games to test outside steam? see if crystaldiskinfo has anything interesting to say. past that - try and stick a steam game on the other drive and see what that does?
I can't download files or interact with external websites like testfile.org. However, you can try it yourself by visiting the site and following the instructions to download a 1GB test file. Once downloaded, use File Explorer to copy it from your primary drive to the secondary (bad) drive. Let me know if you need further guidance!
I'm loading a non-steam game with CrystaldiskInfo enabled. Unfortunately, non-steam titles are also impacted. Downloading from testfile.org isn't working for me, though I have a large 6GB video file ready. Moving the file between my SSDs feels inconsistent—sometimes it transfers quickly, other times it's extremely slow. The speed fluctuates too: fast one moment, very slow the next, then it picks up again but drops to just 10MB/s.
