Right now I own a MacBook Pro for gaming, and soon I’ll be assembling a PC. I learned the Steam summer sale begins on June 23, which might overlap with my build timeline. I intend to buy titles like Fallout 4 at that time. You likely know Fallout 4 is designed for PCs, so I’m wondering if it’s possible to get it on a Mac initially and later move all my games and saved data to the new system. If that’s feasible, what steps would be needed beyond logging into Steam? Thanks ahead!

Absolutely, the performance is great! Just open your account on any Mac or PC, and all your games will be ready to play.

Purchasing a game on Steam adds it to your account and grants you access across any device you use, as long as you're logged in. This gives you a license to play "that game" without being restricted to a particular version or platform. During installation, the appropriate version is installed automatically if available.

It should work just fine. The games are linked to a Steam account, not a personal computer. You might also be able to launch Fallout 4 via Boot Camp, although MacBooks are known for lacking sufficient processing power to run such titles smoothly.

True. For those that don't, you can manually locate the files and relocate them, provided both macOS and PC versions of the game use compatible formats. Check the directory where save files are kept. If it resides in your profile folder—such as "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\123456\something"—you can confirm it's a Steam cloud game.

On the page, it should be noted that while you can purchase the game and use it on another PC, saving games will not automatically transfer between systems without specific setup using a dropbox method.
