You're experiencing issues with text not displaying properly in several Steam games, especially Borderlands 2 and System Shock 2. It seems like the problem might be related to your Ubuntu 14.04 installation or a recent update. You've tried redownloading the game and adjusting settings, but it's still not working as expected.

That refers to the Steam overlay, which is a visual indicator showing your Steam account status on the game screen.

Use Shift+Tab for chatting, Steam browser, etc. It directly adds the Steam client when you press that key combo.

It sounds like someone is saying something almost nobody uses, and they're joking about trying it again later.

This platform is designed for PC gaming and Steam in general. Most users rely on Steam Overlay, which includes a web browser, FPS tracker, music player, mod download tool, gameplay time log, chat functions, and more. Even non-Steam enthusiasts often add games like Battlefield to take advantage of these features. Claiming that "no one uses the overlay" is misleading. Based on your input, it seems you’re unlikely to utilize many of Steam’s other valuable services such as the Big Picture, Music library, broadcasting, streaming, marketplace, or workshop.

Sorry about that. The steam overlay works well. If you don’t need it, you can skip it.
