Steam failure leads to unresponsive windows.
I received my new ASUS FA506QM gaming laptop and attempted to install Steam. When trying to open it, it seemed stuck and never loaded properly—just displayed a loading screen without actually starting. I could still move the cursor and interact with some features, but couldn’t launch new applications or use Ctrl+Alt+DlT. This behavior is quite unusual. I had to shut it down manually and restart the PC to get it working again. I updated my motherboard drivers, applied the latest Windows 10 update (19042.1081), and followed all basic troubleshooting steps. Anyone know if this issue occurs with conflicting software like antivirus or AI Suite? The laptop is brand new with all drivers fresh. What’s happening?
Reviewed the situation. No entries show up in the event log after launching Steam. The first log visible is from rebooting the PC. It seems Steam triggers a system freeze, preventing any operations. In Chrome, I can use Steam but can't load pages—just keeps trying. Any suggestions?
Checked Safe Mode with networking and Ethernet; Steam works without problems. Disabled certain drivers in Safe Mode but not in normal mode, so it’s not a driver problem.
