Your connection isn’t delivering the full speed you’re paying for. With a 50 Mbps download, 7 Mbps usage should leave room for smooth streaming and downloading. The buffering on YouTube suggests your internet isn’t consistently meeting those speeds, possibly due to network congestion or ISP throttling. You’d need more than just 7 Mbps—ideally closer to 50 Mbps—to avoid issues.

There might be an issue with your calculations. Steam usually uses all available bandwidth. That’s why you should set a limit when using the connection for other tasks simultaneously, unless you explicitly mentioned otherwise.

Steam downloads at 7 megabytes per second, not megabits. That equals 56 megabits per second when converted.

50 Mbps equals roughly 6.25 MB/s or about 6250 KB/s. Steam displays download rates in MB/s instead of Mbps, which can be tricky when providers use different terminology. It’s normal to feel uncertain about how internet plans are presented. You can check your speed using https://fast.com; aim for around 50Mbps if you’re not uploading much. However, during Steam downloads—unless you set limits—your bandwidth will be fully consumed. I’d recommend entering a higher value like 4000 KB/s in your Steam settings and turning on the “Limit bandwidth to” option. This ensures you have enough capacity for activities like watching YouTube.

Yes, you're correct. At 7 MB/s the download speed is approximately 50 MBPS. Let me know if you need more details!

The issue lies with YouTube. For an unclear reason, they continue to use 56k modems on their side and allocate the revenue to hire consultants rather than improving their technology.

It looks like you're adjusting settings in Steam to display speeds in Mbps. You might also want to cap the bandwidth around 2-3 Mbps, depending on resolution requirements.
