Steam Download Speeds
Steam Download Speeds
I was testing some games I bought during the summer discount today. It seemed I was only getting up to 12MB per download. I have a 300Mbps internet plan (about 37.5 MB theoretical) and was curious why I wasn’t seeing those speeds. I’m using an Intel X570 Aorus Master with a gigabit port, cat 6 cabling throughout the house, and gigabit switches. It’s not a major concern, just wondering what could be causing the slowdown. I’ve also run speed tests on several sites and consistently got over 300Mbps.
Your internet service provider may be restricting Steam traffic or offering only a 300mbps connection, which is typically achievable within their own network despite advertised speeds.
There’s a method to determine this. It aligns with how ISPs manage high-traffic and large file servers to maintain performance. Thanks for your patience!
I could also use a switch that changes speed between 100Mbps and 1Gbp depending on what it wants. I swapped it out and now get the rates I’m paying. Why does this usually come back to me?
