It seems I might be overlooking something important. I’ve managed to play Cyberpunk 2077 at 720P with over 30 frames per second on less-than-ideal hardware, including a VR setup on a 4150 with limited resources. While it’s not perfect—I can’t handle more than one player in B&S without hitting 90fps—I see the Steam Deck could perform much better. Most folks might hesitate to install Windows there, but the community could definitely help make it more accessible for VR or high-end games. I suspect there are key specs missing from the details that make it less capable than what I experience now.
The significance came mainly from Linux's reputation for poor game support, not because the hardware could handle them. Claiming compatibility with all games was more about Proton and Linux's progress than the actual machines. Of course, they probably won't reach the "Every game on Steam OS" target yet, but they're getting nearer.
I think it's strange how folks say 'The Steam Deck can do X.' They usually mean 'Steam OS 3.0 can do X.' The device itself is just a computer, capable of running many different operating systems and performing various tasks. Steam OS is only one option among others, not the main determinant of what the machine can or cannot do.
This guide helps anti-cheat tools work on Linux. It seems to come from a WAN discussion. The Steam Deck runs fine, though some problems appear. The price looks reasonable, but I'm curious about its laptop performance—screen size is small and there were issues we discussed earlier. Valve apparently supported AMD, which might have led to some interesting adjustments. Also, Linus mentioned the display quality wasn't great on the original Steam Deck prototype. Hopefully it improves, though not dramatically.
Screen clarity isn't certain, but dimensions should match what's shown in the prototype or demo video. Probably quite close overall. Expect significant enhancements in usability and comfort.
