Following my steam deck battery failure, I realized the internal screen stopped responding... assuming it was a bricked device I hadn't used recently. After connecting it to an external monitor, I accessed the operating system and checked the display settings—no internal screen was visible. Through some research, I discovered that others had encountered similar problems. By running the command `xrandr --query`, I found the external display was disconnected and defaulting to a generic screen. Upon examining the hardware, no visible damage was present. I reassembled the device and ran diagnostic tools like `lspci`, `neofetch`, and checked system info. The GPU was detected, suggesting the USB-C port was successfully sending the display signal from the GPU. It seems there might be an issue with the internal display not responding at all since the first incident, possibly due to a software glitch. I haven't observed any hardware failure, but it's unclear if the problem stems from faulty components or software. I suspect this could be a recurring issue, and Steam has indicated they're addressing such bugs. They asked me to update regularly but kept redirecting me without clear solutions. I'm currently stuck trying to find support, having already tried various workarounds like button combinations. The OS still boots and recognizes the internal display, but it appears disconnected from the monitor.

The battery failed? Meaning it doesn’t work at all or it just stopped because it was empty and needed charging? If the battery is completely dead, it might be necessary to use the battery to power the internal screen, which could prevent the screen from turning on—fixing it would involve swapping the battery. If it was just drained, the internal screen seems faulty and needs replacement. When it works from the outside, the issue lies with the internal display itself.

The battery's performance dropped since it lost its charge. I can operate it in the dock without a charger and observe that it functions normally and discharges at an expected rate.
