I got a steam controller but it doesn’t function well with non-valve games. I’m trying to fix it for Rocket League and Ubuntu 18.10. I’ve searched online, set some udev rules, but nothing seems to work except the games I usually play. It’s really frustrating!

Is the game you usually play available on a controller, or is it primarily for a keyboard?

yea rocket league. The controller works in the steam overlay but no response in the game (other than pulling up the overlay)

Are you sure the correct drivers are set up? You can install them using sudo apt install steam-devices if you haven’t done so yet.

Rocket League can be tricky with controllers at times. Do you have other games you'd like to try?

Yes, I own a shield controller that functions, though it doesn't work without a connection. That's why I chose the Steam controller.

Hm okay In rocket league settings, there (I think) is a setting for steam input under controller options, try toggling that

I recall needing to apply Steam's big picture settings before setting up the controller.

I just attempted it. I filled some checkboxes in Steam and discovered a choice in Rocket League to employ the Steam controller. The text inside the brackets in Rocket League says (beta). The controller appears in the menu but doesn't function within the game itself.
