Steam application fails or gets blocked by Windows Defender as a malware threat.
there was a problem recently with my Windows system where Steam.exe wouldn't launch. After several tries to reinstall, I copied the installation from another PC and thought it would work, but it failed again. Now I'm helping a friend whose computer got infected—possibly with malware. The issue is that Windows flags Steam.exe as a virus and blocks it, even though the system won't let me delete it. It keeps showing an error about the file being inaccessible due to possible malware or corruption. My system runs Windows 11 while his is Windows 10, and I'm stuck trying to fix it by checking the OS health and using command prompts, but nothing works because the operating system refuses to interact with the file.
On my machine I use Acronis Home and I tried a trial on a friend's system. It didn't detect anything, but the friend noticed a lot of issues. He mentioned he's young and has been downloading a lot from questionable sources. Some files were quarantined, including a .dll from the Steam folder, which prevented installation because it couldn't rewrite Steam.exe.
