Used this program from the start when you had to pay for it (Windows Live One Care, first year only). Really liked it, never gave up and hasn’t let me down. Blocked numerous trojan and virus attempts. Over time it evolved into what it is now—Windows Defender is top-notch software. Runs smoothly in the background and you’re rarely disturbed unless it alerts you about stopping an attack. Performs exactly as promised. That’s all...

I use the monthly Malicious Software Removal Tool from Windows Update. Antivirus software seems to hurt system performance unless I frequently install programs. Sandboxie works well as an alternative.

My thoughts and Malwarebytes. That's enough.

I always choose BitDefender because it performs exceptionally well—it even includes a database of recognized false positives to prevent unnecessary issues with your files, unlike other programs such as Norton or AVG.

Windows Defender performs adequately for free, outperforming AVG in my experience. Avast offers slightly better protection but consumes more system resources. I haven’t used Norton, Kaspersky, or BitDefender. Comodo works well too, particularly when you opt for their affordable paid version—often available at a low cost (I purchased two computers for a year for $10) with live desktop support and a custom Chrome version. Personally, I prefer the Nod32 paid edition; it has a clean interface, uses minimal resources, operates quietly in the background, and reliably detects threats. I’ve never encountered false positives, even with tools like Cain&Abel that flag similar items. With so many options, picking the right antivirus can be challenging—consider downloading Malwarebytes to complement your choice.

Same here. Sufficient when you only check reliable sources.

If you regularly check virus.com for daily virus updates, Windows Defender might not be the best choice. It's a lightweight antivirus that runs smoothly without slowing down your system or impacting performance. It scans quickly and efficiently. But its limitations mean it mainly catches common threats. It doesn't deeply analyze multiple heuristics or frequently update its detection methods to stay ahead of evolving malware. It works well for those prioritizing system speed, especially when you practice safe web browsing habits. However, if you're in a professional setting or prone to infections from untrusted sources, consider more robust solutions. Microsoft doesn’t position Windows Defender as the top antivirus or anti-malware product available. Their goal is to provide reliable protection for users with existing licenses, rather than competing on advanced features. For businesses or high-risk environments, exploring other reputable AV tools can help improve overall security and performance.
