Stay cautious with GTA Shark cards.
Stay cautious with GTA Shark cards.
For all gamers enjoying GTA Online, please heed this warning before purchasing shark cards. I purchased a $20 shark card for my PS3 at the game’s release. Later that evening, a character moved over to PC. When I attempted the transfer, the funds from the shark card were missing. I contacted Rockstar to inquire about this issue. The representative was courteous but explained their policy: cross-platform transfers (from PS3 to PC or Xbox One) do not include shark card funds. Any money spent on shark cards during a transfer will be lost.
I’m bringing this to your attention because Rockstar seems to have its own rules, even though they don’t clearly state them in writing. While I’ve played many Rockstar titles—GTA, Midnight Club, Max Payne, Red Dead, Bully, LA Noire—I still feel disappointed that they’re not treating our purchases fairly. This situation is frustrating for fans who value their investment.
This seems unusual to some due to licensing issues, not because it's the first time I've encountered something like this. It's not the fault of the artists, and thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Did you really purchase the Shark Card for PS3 just to get the cash on PC? That seems odd—you should've waited until it was released for PC before buying it on the platform it's intended for.
It should have worked. You purchased it with the assumption it would function on another platform, but it didn’t. While I believe some responsibility lies with you, Rockstar could have been more explicit about compatibility changes for PC, so you’re still accountable here.
