I was playing Garry's Mod when a random user messaged me about buying items. Since I usually trade a lot, it wasn’t unusual, but the link they sent included messages from many of my friends claiming a New Year’s drawing. The message also installed several viruses and programs on my PC, though I managed to remove them easily. I’ve spoken with some friends, and it looks like this virus is spreading widely. I don’t know what will happen next, but I’ll update you if anything changes.

It seems you're pointing out a responsibility issue with clicking links from random Steam users.

There is no infection spreading. It seems you're noticing some obvious spam.

Avoid clicking on pages containing capture-pictures.com in the address bar, particularly those shared via Steam. These sites can be malicious. Stay safe!

It's similar to the one where you click a link and receive a generic message from friends like "Hey, I didn't know you did this before *link to pyramid scheme page or further virus*." You just need to be smart; spam is obvious and it's sad you fell victim to it.

If your circle consists solely of Harvard scholars, and you receive a notification such as: Then be wise and avoid clicking it. The majority of these alerts are actually unclear and mechanical in tone.

I understand I acted carelessly by clicking that link. It wasn’t a typical spam message; it came from an Imgur post, which made things worse.
