Starting the Cyberpunk map with RT turned on leads to the entire system shutting down
I recently assembled a new machine with the following components: 7600X 7900 XTX (PowerColor MBA reference) MSI B650I Edge Gaming Wifi G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (two 16 GB modules) DDR5-6000 CL30 Lian Li SP850 power supply, Windows 11 with latest updates. Running at 3440x1440 resolution with HDR activated on AW3423DWF, VSync enabled at 165Hz. I’m unsure if this is related to a Cyberpunk bug or an AMD issue, but it seems likely both are connected. If I enable ray tracing (which I previously tested with the RT Ultra preset), opening the game map causes my PC to shut down immediately. This behavior disappears when RT is turned off. I can’t restart it until I reset the PSU’s I/O switch, suggesting an overcurrent or voltage protection event. I’ve read about similar reports from years past regarding crashes when the map is loaded, but it’s unusual for the entire system to power down this way. I’m puzzled about the technical cause, but it feels like the game is interfering with the GPU’s power draw or stability. No concern about ray tracing itself, though it’s still frustrating and raises safety concerns. I can share a link to an example video if helpful: https://twitter.com/thevanderburg/status...8rvg3dHqtw
Avoid V-sync above 60Hz refresh—it's outdated tech. It was built for older configurations. AMD offers Enhanced Sync, and if your monitor supports it, enable Freesync too. Disable V-sync in every game. Ultra isn't ideal, particularly for Cybershrek "I crash often chumba" 2077. This game is a risky experiment from many perspectives. Don't judge your PC based on recent failed titles.
If power consumption matters to you, consider using VSync to cap the frame rate and reduce energy use. I aimed to keep it under 165fps during debugging, not because it was necessary, but to investigate the crash.
The Lian Li PSU is also considered one of the top choices in China, with Emperor LiLiking it. For higher wattage, a better brand might be more beneficial.
