I’m assembling my very first PC. I purchased two DDR4 8GB sticks at 3200 MHz and a Ryzen 5 2600 processor. The manufacturer claims support for 3200, but a review mentioned you need to enable your XPS profile in the BIOS to unlock the full speed. They also noted that the system reports 1600 MHz due to dual-channel behavior dividing the MHz by two. Is that accurate? How does dual-channel affect performance?

It doesn't hinder memory performance and continues operating efficiently at 3200 RPM.

All ram sticks, regardless of the motherboard, will experience reduced frequency in the model name. With a single 3200 stick, it operates at 1600 MHz; two 3200 sticks each run at 1600 MHz individually. When combined, they form two channels at 1600 MHz, which is why it’s called dual channel. This means the RAM effectively runs at 3200 MHz only if you have four 3200 sticks and your motherboard supports quad channel. However, the actual performance remains similar to around 3200 MHz when using four sticks with support. Remember, your motherboard must allow the required frequencies, and check its specifications before assuming optimal speeds.
