You can adjust boot order settings in your BIOS when starting up. Make sure the Windows 8 drive is prioritized over USB devices for a smooth launch.

If the disc matches, the system wouldn’t display the option to boot Windows 8 after installing XP. This issue is usually simple to resolve using Windows Repair. I think switching to a different drive during booting shouldn’t cause problems, provided you adjust the boot order in BIOS properly.
