Great question! Since you're new to Star Citizen, start with a beginner-friendly package like the "Basic" or "Explorer" set. It gives you essential tools without overwhelming costs. Focus on what fits your playstyle—whether it's exploration, mining, or building.

@ Bendiksen I recommend choosing the option that fits your budget. A standard package at 36€ (including VAT) provides all essentials for playing the game. You can contribute extra funds to support future updates and receive a more powerful starting ship. We’re also ready to generate REC points to acquire better gear or ships without additional spending (see details). Check out some tutorials or browse the RSI page to learn more about the project. If you prefer not to focus on dogfighting or racing, there’s limited activity right now. However, the recent 1.3 update introduced some issues in the social module, and free flight offers fun interactions with other players. Patch 2.0 is expected soon and will bring more features and options. Beyond that, we’ve already addressed many questions on this forum. If you’d rather not read, you can join our Discord server for casual conversations. And here’s a referral code if you decide to sign up for STAR-TRBS-24N5

Consider these key points before deciding. Keep in mind the high costs of some vessels—Napper emphasized there are choices for every budget. You just need to pick what suits you best. I’d likely opt for an Aegis Dynamics Avenger package. Also, at the moment, you’re not purchasing a finished game. We still have the hangar and a few playable modules, with more coming soon via 2.0. The game is currently in alpha, and your support helps move it forward. Plus, each new build brings fresh content, adjustments, and balance changes.

People have mentioned it's not really about purchasing a game now, but supporting its development through crowdfunding. Securing the game is essentially the ultimate reward for that support. Regarding the type of ship you prefer, you don't need much beyond the essential package to receive the full release product. Anything extra you're willing to spend is entirely up to you. If you're aiming for a title in the AAA price range, the Avenger offers good value with versatile roles and solid firepower. That's just my perspective; someone who invests more time in acquiring it might have further insights.

These options all seem viable; pick the one that fits your budget best. A ship equipped with gimbals is especially important since it negates the drawbacks of the Aurora series. (The Mustangs are a bit unclear in this context.)

The optimal approach is to purchase the most affordable package and expand from there. If you enjoy the game, you can upgrade or modify the package to obtain a more valuable version. Nonetheless, simply acquiring the basic packages will still grant you entry into Squadron 42, the beta of the PU (mmo feature) and the endpoint mmo. The distinction between cheaper and pricier packages mainly lies in the size or complexity of the ship you receive, which you can obtain by continuing to play. It all hinges on your level of support for the company. Just remember, these are only additional charges—only packages provide access to Squadron 42 and PU features.
