Hey guys, I was just browsing around the forums and an Idea hit me: why not just make a thread to share the awesomeness of Star Wars Battlefront II (2005)? So here goes: For starters, BF2* is an awesome first person shooter. It covers the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War timelines, and has a bunch of content. Stock, it has 20+ maps, from Echo Base on Both, to Mod Eisley on Tatooine, to the jungles of Felucia. You can play on LAN (Personally never worked for me, but other people have had success), or over the Internet (With GameRanger), with up to 64 players. It also has a very well done campaign mode, covering the story of the 501st legion, later Vader's Fist, through the end of the Clone Wars, and on the the Empire. The game play is awesome, mechanics are simple, and it can run on basically any PC (I've run it on a Celeron laptop with 2GB RAM). Also, it's $10 from either Steam or GOG, and you can get it on sale for about $2.50**. Next, there's the modding community. Want Halo? There's a (beta) mod for that. Want Republic Commando? there's a mod for that. Want better lighting and graphics? There's a mod for that. I've got a few mods installed so far that bring in maps from Battlefront I, and also space-to-ground combat from the cancelled Battlefront III. This brings us to this thread (Please read it through so you don't all suggest the same thing, just click 'agree' on someone's post if you were going to say that): Please share any tips you have, any favorite mods, etc. I'll make a list below with the links to all the ones I've used so far, and any ones you guys suggest. MODS: unnoficial v1.3 patch (required for pretty much all the mods): http://www.moddb.com/games/star-wars-bat...-129-final Battlefront II Conversion Pack: http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-batt...n-pack-v20 . Patch v2.2: http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-batt...-v22-patch . Adds a bunch of maps from Battlefront I (but Marvel14's maps are better), the KOTOR era, more game modes, and different Clone Legions. 2017 graphics mod by HarrisonFog: http://www.moddb.com/mods/hd-graphics-mod . He also has a few rezzed (updated graphics) maps, which I'd recommend getting. Republic Commando mod by Anakin: http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-batt...c-commando . It's one of the most well done mods I've ever seen. And the commando's armor and weapons are on point! Battlefront I conversion pack by Marvel14: http://www.lonebullet.com/maps/download-...-52262.htm . Brings over all the awesome maps from Battlefront I (Bespin Platfroms, City, Kashyykk Docks, etc.) You can download it from Nexus Mods if you think Lone Bullet looks fishy, but you have to make an account to download anything above 100MB. *I know that's normally for Battle field 2, but in this case it's battle front . **I'm in the US, so all prices are USD.

I considered Battlefront and Battlefront 2 to be excessively hyped games. In BF2, the cutscenes and voice acting were actually quite impressive. Calling the campaign "very well done" doesn’t seem fair. Once you dive into the actual gameplay, each Campaign Mission feels like a typical MP match versus AI. Space Combat was surprisingly simplistic—fun for a short time but still lacking depth. That said, mods really shine.

It was impressive how many bots or players you could manage in a game. Even the latest EA Battlefield supports around 10 to 20 people.

Run Planetside 2 for a more immersive experience, though it's worth noting there are still constraints on handling many players at once. The game grows in complexity, demanding higher bandwidth and improved networking to maintain performance with the same player count—let alone scaling up further. Battlefront 2015 adopts a similar strategy by relying on AI "weak" bots to simulate a larger presence.

Yup. My brother had it set up with the CIS having 2500 troops and the Republic Commandos having 1500 troops. With how fast the bots span, that ends up with a ton of machine gunning mayhem. And then there's XL mode... And @dalekphalm , I agree with your post that the gameplay isn't super deep, but that's the fun of it. Just sit down with your siblings, friends, or pretty much anyone and you can be up and running in a couple minutes. Also, it's a good clean game. No suggestive stuff, and the worst language is, "Growling heck! It's a super!".

Sure, I understand. I focus on the topic without worrying about tone or appropriateness.

Yup, though they don't (at least they shouldn't), to my 13 and under little siblings. And even though I'm 17, blood spats in video games make me queasy. And just 'cause people do it doesn't make it right. And you don't have to swear in military type shooting games. My dad was in the US Marines for 20+ years, part of it the the Recon (Special Forces part of the Marines), and he doesn't swear at all. Worst I've heard him say is "gosh". Enough off topic stuff though, let's keep it on point. EDIT: I just realized how many times I said "and" at the beginning of a sentence....

One of my favorite things about the game is all of the good memory's I have of playing hours of it with my older brother, we still play it time to time and we still find it very enjoyable, it has simple gameplay, but that's part of why I like it so much. There doesn't have to be all these flashy run on walls and stuff to make it a good game

The BF2 game stood out because of the creative ways players could ruin the map. Destroying entire structures offered a fresh, exciting method to reshape the environment rather than relying on predefined fixes.

Alright! I understand! The game is straightforward with no extra features or complex systems like the new Battlefront does. It’s a simple experience where you can play as your favorite Star Wars character and enjoy battling your preferred opponent.
