Star Wars Battlefront 2 experiences extremely slow loading even when using an SSD.
My Battlefront 2 performance has become extremely slow lately. I tried playing again and was shocked by how long it took to open the menu—over a minute. After moving the game to my SSD and restarting my PC, the issue persisted. Reinstalling the game didn’t help either. Even after restarting my router, loading times remained the same. Once I finally entered the menu, an instant action match loaded in about a minute. This is definitely not typical for a DICE title, especially on an SSD. I’d really appreciate any explanation or advice you can provide.
What type of SSD are you using (SATA or NVMe)? Also, note that when you start the game right after a shutdown, it seems slower compared to when you sleep, which might be due to internet speed. It could also be related to background processes, though I’m not very familiar with those. Personally, I play too—on first boot it usually takes around 15 seconds to load, whereas from sleep it’s under 30 seconds, and I have an NVMe SSD.
Sorry for the delayed response. I'm currently at work with a Samsung EVO 860 SATA SSD. From what I remember, the last update was months ago, except for that. I can't recall much else. The only programs I use are Steam, Spotify, and Discord. I restarted it several times today after powering it back on, and everything still works the same. To be honest, I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m pretty sure it’s not hardware-related.
Consider launching Task Manager or similar tools during gameplay to check for performance bottlenecks. Running at ultra or high settings will affect load times more than low or medium settings. Still, one minute isn't a significant issue from my perspective. Although the system isn't using PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, it's still manageable compared to older hard drives—my old PC took about ten minutes to load Battlefield 2.
I get it, but even with the game on my HDD it didn’t take long now. After installing it on my SSD, I’m still puzzled about this. Also, I’ve been using medium to high settings without any issues, and I’ve kept those graphics options active for a long time. When I get home, I’ll try again and share the exact wait time for loading and maps.
Loading any game on a hard drive in a minute isn't something I've heard much about before. Also, keep in mind that some maps are significantly bigger and need more assets to load, like The MC85 being small while Mos Eisley, Geonosis, and Scarif are massive.
It usually takes around two minutes to load into the menu for both HDD and SSD. I don’t mind the delay with my HDD, but it’s puzzling since SSDs should be faster—at least 20 seconds should be noticeable. I’ve checked the task manager and confirmed there are no other programs causing high disk usage; it stays at just 3 percent in idle. It seems nothing is interfering with the loading time. As I said before, I really don’t understand unless someone else has ideas. Maybe a factory reset would help.
Yeah I'd say try that first, but honestly I'm just at a loss at this point mate, never seen this happen to me at all. Good luck, and may the force be with you.
