You're right, it's only partially PBR'd.

It seems the lighting is a bit off lately. The new updates for the hangars should improve things soon.

It seems like the game resembles Crysis since it's built on CryEngine 3. But don't worry—later stages will feature their own unique take on CryEngine 4, with the developers putting in a lot of effort.

The issue lies in the specific Crysis mechanics that players experience. I’ve played other CryEngine titles developed by different teams, which don’t feel similar to Crysis. Regarding CryEngine 4 support, it seems developers are creating their own customized versions with modified source code and ongoing updates.

the latest update is arriving soon, this week with optimism, it completely revamps the hangars—never changed since last year. It brings full PBR details, adds more ships that also feature PBR, and there’s no AAs or similar elements because development hasn’t started yet. The game hasn’t been optimized either.

They're utilizing a modified Cry engine 4 rather than version 3. But honestly, complaining about pre-alpha? The game is getting excitement thanks to Chris Roberts' involvement, plus the ship designs are impressive... and Reddit isn't stopping them. Do you know what an alpha build actually means? It's a wonder the game only has blockouts so far! @qwertywarrior they're developing custom animations and have shared the process several times.

SC is developed using a significantly tailored version of CryEngine 3.7, with updates integrated into CryEngine 4. The most notable adjustment is transitioning from a 32-bit to a 64-bit architecture, enabling expansive play spaces and improved performance scaling.

CR stated that no unique physics engines will be created, and they will continue using an updated version of Cry Engines.
