I know its performance is poor compared to today. However, I don’t have a lot of money or access to better options.

It should function properly. It wasn’t a powerful chip, even back then. If you can afford it and have the means... go for it. Those of us who can’t will struggle to picture your scenario. Just do what you need to do.

However, it doesn’t seem worth the investment. The i5 2400 ranks near 3780 in benchmarks, while the i5 2600 (with shipping) scores about 4120 and the i7 2600 around 5300. Paying roughly $30 for a performance boost of 40-50% still feels like poor value. You could also consider a Ryzen 3 1200 for $15-18, which offers a score of around 6200, and then focus on a suitable motherboard and DDR4 RAM.
