Hey there! I'm here from Discord because I'm still trying to solve this issue. It's been going on since January, and I'm not sure what's behind it. Sometimes when I play games, my game SSD disconnects. I assumed the problem was with the SSD itself, so I changed from a Sabrent Rocket to a 980 Pro (June 2023 version). Still, the issue persists.
What's odd is that switching to another SSD also causes the same problem. With the 980 Pro, it goes straight to the CPU and then to the chipset via PCIe. I thought it might be a Windows issue, reinstalled Windows, and did a fresh clean install of the drive. But it didn't help.
I changed the motherboard, GPU, CPU, ran memtest86 on RAM, re-seated all cables, and even repasted everything. The only part I can't swap is the PSU, but I rarely see it failing. Any advice would be great!

Smart and Samsung Magician show everything is healthy.
Motherboard voltage stays normal during games.
It's possible that certain SATA connections are turned off after installing an NVMe drive. Check the motherboard manual to find out which ports become unavailable and avoid them on your system. This note was updated on November 12, 2023 by Ramamataz.
I've already tested these settings. The only SSD that works is the one supporting Gen 4 speed 970 Evo on Gen 3 Sabrent via PCIe 2. I've verified which SATA ports are disabled using NVMe utilities and installed them properly.
The situation gets resolved when pushing forward; maybe swapping the SATA cables would help. The problem seems unusual. Some users faced similar issues by updating the BIOS, refreshing the SSD firmware, reviewing the Event Viewer, or checking for overheating concerns.
Removing the PCIe case can resolve the problem. These cases might not perform well when stressed.
That claim isn't accurate... all PSUs degrade gradually, and pushing them to their limits like with the 3080 results in reduced peak output over time. This isn't a typical failure—it seems your drives lose power when the GPU demands are high.
