SSD & Vista SP2?
SSD & Vista SP2?
Hello everyone! I discovered a genuine copy of Vista in my drawer and wondered if it’s a good idea to install it on my SSD. I’ve heard it’s not recommended since it lacks a built-in TRIM feature, which can hurt write and read speeds overall. I’m currently running Windows 7, which is unstable with frequent errors. Even though there’s no automatic TRIM in Vista, I think manual TRIM would help. I remember SP1 caused issues, but it seems Microsoft improved things in SP2. I really miss Windows Vista, but performance matters less to me since I’m not a gamer. My system includes an Intel P965 Core 2 Duo E 6600 with 2.4GHz dual-channel DDR2 memory, and I’m using the Asus GTX-750 Ti OC 2GB dual fan edition SSD from Corsair Builder Series CX430. The HyperX Fury 240GB is about a year old. My setup works okay but has some file corruption problems, so I don’t want to reinstall. I’d rather try something newer if possible. Thanks!
Based on my background, I recommend updating to Win 7 since Vista support is likely to end soon—probably within half a year at most. Vista is already quite outdated.
They claimed to have resolved issues in service pack 2, but the problems persist.
Install Windows 7 on that puppy and you'll get a solid Gold rating. Often you can find a decent price on sites like /r/microsoftsoftwareswap or G2A.
