Someone has knowledge about games that start quicker with an SSD. I have a 240GB SSD and mostly store only essential titles that load faster on it, which also helps save space. So far I’ve kept CS games and Windows OS files there. I’m wondering if adding this SSD would really make a difference or if it’s not necessary. For the games I own, I have all Valve releases (CS, L4D, Half-Life 2, Portal), Rocket League, BF3, Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2, Dirt 3, Grid, NFS Hot Pursuit, MOH, MOH Warfighter, Mirror’s Edge, and Metro series. I also have Metro 2033, Last Light Redux.
I'll reply tomorrow just by leaving this here to gather more responses before going to bed. Games need to load much quicker than an HDD. I'm not installing every title to test and then deleting them because the internet won't let me. So far, people say L4D2 doesn't affect SSD specifications: i5 4460, coming soon 480 4GB, 8GB RAM, 2 and 1 TB HDD, Sandisk Ultra II 240GB SSD.
I owned an HDD with BF3 installed at some point after its release, and when I upgraded to an SSD, I encountered issues trying to install it. Usually I was among the first to play, even though BF3 caused delays for many others, since I’d quickly jump to flags once enough players joined...
Running a Perfmon helps monitor IO and disk queue times to check for HDD limits. If the game uses sequential reads, it should perform well on an HDD—provided latency isn’t a problem (usually due to seek times or rotation). Frequent random reads suggest switching to SSDs.
I’m considering upgrading to a new SSD just so I can run GTA 5 more smoothly, especially with the slow online loading times.
The only game ive noticed it have a really massive difference in is GTAV when swapping characters, the time difference is massive . Edit: To the person above me, the long load times in GTA Online are more so about waiting for the servers to respond and allocate an individual Los Santos for you and not so much about shortcomings in your hardware.
