I couldn't locate any information about this situation, so I thought it would be best to ask for clarification.
I own a crucial mx100 512GB SSD that I've been using for more than a year. It has never caused any issues and has performed flawlessly. The only realization is that I never connected the power cable to it from my PSU. It seems it was receiving power through the SATA data cable instead, which was unexpected. I noticed my BIOS didn<|pad|> to not recognize the drive, but Windows still booted and ran smoothly. Could anyone explain how this happened and whether I caused any damage by drawing power from the data cable? After switching to the correct SATA power connector, everything seems normal except for occasional screen flickering during reboots. It's quite strange!

It's quite unusual, as only eSATA requires power through it, and even then, the SSD needs its own power connector.

it looks like someone is observing your setup with Nikola Tesla by their side.

I understand why it's surprising it has been running for so long. Based on what I see, it shouldn't have started up without power connected. There must be some power coming through the data cable for a reason. Could this be related to a design issue on the mainboard? It's an MSI z87-g41 PC. My biggest worry is that I didn't damage my drive or any other parts by using it this way. Everything seems normal. It has been stress tested and passed Prime95, while Crystaldisk is showing good results.

I understand you're looking for a different way to phrase this, but the original message should be kept as is. Let me know if you'd like it adjusted further!
