Hello, your MacBook Air arrived without an SSD, so you bought a new one. You should reinstall the operating system on it now.
You can create a bootable USB or, if it's fresh enough, perform a fresh installation.
You can begin the process by holding Option-Command-R at startup to launch internet recovery and download macOS. You’ll notice a spinning globe icon, but this method may retrieve an outdated version of macOS, requiring you to update promptly. An alternative is visiting an Apple Store for professional installation. Another option is to install macOS yourself, which needs access to another Mac. Download the newest version from the Mac App Store, use a flash drive or external hard drive, and follow Disk Utility instructions to erase the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with the desired name. After downloading macOS High Sierra, enter the provided command in Terminal.app and complete the setup. After installation finishes, eject the drive, connect it to your desired Mac, and boot while holding the Option key. Select Install macOS High Sierra from the boot menu, then use Disk Utility to format your SSD with APFS and GUID Partition Map, naming it appropriately. Once finished, close Disk Utility and proceed to install macOS. After the installation, reinstall the erased drive, plug in the external one, and follow the on-screen prompts to restore it as a regular drive. You’re all set!
