It reminds me of the Skype audio issues, but I can't locate similar settings in Mint. It's possible other apps reduce volume too, though it's likely minimal. If you have any tips on adjusting settings to fix this, I'd appreciate it. This isn't just during notifications—it keeps the volume low for a few seconds.

I don't have access to Windows. That option isn't available for me.

I also use Spotify and Discord on Linux without any problems. The only change I made was to Discord's automatic gain control and its echo cancellation features.

He attempted it, though it looks like a system issue or something specific to Spotify, since the app became quiet when I sent the notification.

With mint installed, it might be a peculiar cinnamon configuration. I’d suggest exploring the cinnamon audio settings to see if anything unusual is present, or simply reset the desktop to test.

I think PulseAudio might offer a way for apps to lower the volume of other sounds, like notifications. It could work through a DE or be a planned feature—though it sometimes feels a bit intrusive. A quick search didn’t find anything about this in Arch/Plasma, and I haven’t seen it before. What Mint version are you using?

Mint 19.2 paired with the Cinnamon desktop works unless there are additional options beyond what the Sound and PulseAudio menus provide—I've searched extensively for a switch to enable this feature.

I believe I fixed it. In Alsamixer I muted the "smart volume" setting, and that seems to have resolved the issue, though not completely.

What a random question! Smart volume isn't something I've encountered before—probably a new feature or a joke. It seems like a fun twist on audio settings! 😄

I'm trying to figure out something about a Soundblaster Z. It seems the issue started after updating the kernel to 4.20.6 and adjusting audio settings in Alsamixer. I don't fully grasp everything yet, but I've resolved it at least for now. Currently, I'm having trouble getting MTGA to work with Lutris.
