It's possible to intercept traffic between devices by positioning yourself between the router and the modem. Adjust the DHCP server so all connections pass through the firewall. Connect both wan and LAN to the modem, disable DHCP on the combo device, assign a fixed IP on both interfaces in the firewall, and turn DHCP back on at the firewall. Verify the wan port points to the right gateway and ensure LAN and wan reside on separate subnets.
I configured static IP addresses, turned off DHCP, and made OPNsense act as the DHCP server. The wireless connection stopped working. I’m considering switching the modem to bridge mode to prevent further issues. I’ll check the results after everyone goes to bed tonight.
