It's normal to feel confused about ranking changes. Playing less frequently can lead to being unranked, which might seem unfair. The system seems designed to encourage regular play. You're right, getting promoted quickly is possible, but it does feel odd if you don't maintain activity. Overwatch might be coming back, or your rank could reset—either way, it's not uncommon for these things to happen.
the system adjusted the ranking scale. once global elite was easily attainable, now it truly matters if you belong to that elite group.
In the last two months of CSGO things have been really tough. Valve just dropped a new update that messed up the ranking system—only about 0.8 players can get into Global Elite now. Plus, if you lose your rank, your score drops too. For Overwatch, you need around 200 hours (probably more) and at least 150 wins. Let me know if this helps.
