In short, I'm struggling with my Core 2 Duo/GTX 460 setup to run anything other than Linux Mint. The issue is the lack of drivers for the Ethernet controller, which blocks me from downloading them online. I've tried adjusting the disk settings on the machine running Linux Mint, but the 240GB drive appears as just 512MB and is empty. I've used Rufus with an official Windows 10 ISO on a 16GB USB stick, but that didn't work. Changing BIOS settings doesn't help—they save, but I replaced the CMOS battery. I'm at a loss. I also have a Windows XP machine available for testing. Please be aware connecting a Windows XP PC to the internet isn't safe. I won't click on any "free iPhone" offers.
Use the device you're operating to obtain the network driver for that computer, selecting the desired Windows version, and move it once the system is set up.
I'm having trouble installing Windows. Could you clarify what's going on?
The computer starts up and I'm attempting to install something. The flashing process seems to function, displaying the Windows splash with four blue squares on a black background for a brief moment before transitioning to a black screen with a pulsing cursor. (It looks like an old-school prompt flashing line rather than a mouse-style cursor.)
I'm using two machines. One isn't working and I'm trying to install Windows 10. I've installed it on a similar machine (Dell Precision T3400) that runs Windows 10 without problems. The other is the 2003 model, which I won't upgrade to Vista. It's not worth it, even with the ATI PRO 9600 MOBILITY TURBO drivers—those only came with a year or less and official ATI drivers don't work! I really like DELL for backing a product for just nine months.
