Speed up windows 7?
I returned to Windows 7 Pro after using Windows 8.1 Pro... everything feels slow. Loading apps and getting into the system takes much longer than usual. My Ethernet card won’t connect to the internet until around 20 seconds after booting up. I’m trying a few fixes—could reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro work, but I was planning to sell it to a friend. It’s an official Microsoft download, not pirated. Even the installation process is legitimate. Plus, my mouse and keyboard aren’t responding when I wake from sleep. I checked the settings and made sure the “allow device to wake up machine” option was enabled, but nothing changed.
Verify your chipset drivers are up to date. The slow start is mainly due to your preference for 8.1's Hybrid Shutdown, which pauses the OS and reduces boot time. Also review your startup programs to ensure nothing unnecessary is running.
want to soar on a boot? consider an SSD upgrade. Windows 7 isn't just slow—it actually freezes completely. Windows 8.1 feels like a fake shutdown, ending up in standby mode, almost like all consoles today. some kind of hibernation happens. EDIT: speed bird helped me out—you're quite impressive!
I didn't do it before. I'm setting it up now to check if it addresses my problems.
Your system will take about 32 seconds to start up on an 80GB HDD with a 7200 RPM drive.
Windows 8.1 operates differently from a traditional standby—it behaves more like logging off and then hibernating. The system doesn’t truly enter low-power mode; instead, it powers down completely. This can lead to issues only during Windows Updates, which is why I turn it off on SSDs to keep boot times quick.
