Hi everyone, welcome! I’m facing a problem with my RAM speed even though XMP is turned on. I have two 8GB RAM sticks, each 3200MHz, from the g.skill Tridentz RGB series, installed on an Aorus x470 Ultra Gaming motherboard. My Ryzen 2700X CPU is running, and I’ve updated both the BIOS to version 4.2g and the chipset drivers for Windows 10.
In Task Manager it only displays 2133MHz, while CPU-Z shows 1066MHz. The BIOS settings have “profile1” XMP enabled, but the issue continues. On the system memory multiplier section, one column says “auto” and another “32.00”—I can’t change the 32.00 value. The memory frequency column has 3200MHz and 2133MHz next to each other, but I can’t adjust either. My RAM is set to position 0+2, and I’ve tried swapping positions and reordering the sticks without success.
I’m still having trouble getting the speed to match what I expect, and I’m not sure how to fix it. I’ve attached some screenshots for reference. Please let me know if you can help! Thanks.
This performance is typical for DRAM, as it operates at half the RAM speed; thus, a 1600MHz should be correct if the 3200MHz was functioning properly. For XMP settings, the motherboard generally uses the maximum available frequency when enabled.
I don't know if mouse control in the BIOS functions or not, but you should adjust the "Auto" next to 32. If the mouse isn't working, rely on arrow keys, + and -, escape, and enter. That's typical, DDR memory's data rate is double the actual operating frequency since DDR stands for double data rate—meaning it sends data twice per cycle.
Great thanks! I’ll give it a shot and experiment with the + and - keys to adjust the "32" to "auto." I was surprised I couldn’t change it since it looked white, and I usually controlled XMP settings using arrow keys. I’ll try again once I’m back from work.
Well I'm not sure about this motherboard - and I'm not sure what you may have already changed etc I would do the following : reset CMOS (plug the power from wall, remove CMOS battery, wait 5 minutes, put it back in) And then set XMP to XMP profile 2 > save & restart > check the frequency in cpu z or task manager. Reason being most motherboards use XMP2 for the correct overclock, and it's really just that easy but it's also important to not change any other settings in order for this to work.
The process moves through bios settings by using + or -, switching between disabled and profile1. There’s no profile2 option. The next step adjusts a column on the left when you press + or -, while the right column remains fixed at 32.00 2133MHz. I’m not sure what’s causing this behavior—maybe there’s an issue with the settings or a hidden setting.
It seems your photos appeared reversed in the last update. They look perfectly correct now on your phone. Not a bad day at all!
Edit: this is some general trouble shooting you could do, but please disregard and see my next post. I don't think it's worth messing with this specific motherboard as it has known issues with XMP ... You still should reset the CMOS, might seem drastic but somethings not right . You should also be able to control the bios with a mouse... Check in your manual that there's really only one XMP profile too, that seem rather strange. And also check your ram is on the recommended vendor list of your motherboard manufacturer. PS: also are you really sure you "save & exit" after setting the XMP? Because if you don't there will be no change naturally. Idk just thinking of reasons why this wouldn't work for you assuming profile 1 *is* actually the right profile...
