I'm cautious about recommending the WRT 1200 AC or 1900 AC to someone new to networking. There have been numerous issues with the stock firmware. Even on many Linux/DD-WRT versions, they don't function well. The Netgear Nighthawk IS remains a solid choice. I once set one of the original models up in a commercial environment, and it continues to operate flawlessly today.
