There’s something odd going on with my internet everywhere I go. The ISPs seem unreliable, and their network setup looks pretty basic. My Wi-Fi should handle about 4Mbps, which means roughly 500KBps downloads. But when I speed test, it usually drops to 25-30Mbps. If I try to stream from my browser, it caps at around 150KBps, but on Steam… wow, it actually reaches 8Mbps and then holds steady. When I launch any Steam game and stop playing, it jumps back up to the full 25-30Mbps. It’s strange considering I’ve been using just 2Mbps Wi-Fi for five years now. This is definitely not good quality by today’s standards, but after living with this for so long, it’s a relief to finally be able to download large games in a day instead of weeks.
Have you verified your connection speed using a VPN? It seems the method your ISP employs to restrict bandwidth isn’t affecting Steam performance. Can you confirm the speed on another device, such as a mobile phone?
