I’ve encountered the same challenges with the Asus Crosshair VII Hero (non-WiFi) and Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro. Through my research, many users have reported similar difficulties with these components. After adjusting settings like timing and voltage, my device passed Windows 10 tests but struggled with Cinebench performance since version 2133. I followed advice to overclock, checked RAM compatibility (it wasn’t supported), and even used the memory wizard, which was unreliable. My experience was frustrating due to firmware and microcode conflicts, plus an Ethernet controller issue. While I appreciate most of the board’s features, these two parts kept causing problems. I upgraded my rig to 4.2GHz and DDR4-3200 after installing new RAM. At first, it wasn’t flagged as overclocked. I revisited the fundamentals, adjusted the CPU settings, then fine-tuned the DRAM to 3200. The kit isn’t listed in QVL and still shows 2133 in most programs, but timing data indicates it’s actually running at 1600. I’m content with this setup for now, planning not to make further changes. I might slightly lower the CPU for better stability, as I don’t want to repeat the troubles. It seems the switch from the 16GB 2x8 to 4x8 32GB wasn’t the issue—more likely it was letting Ryzen and Asus AI handle things without overcomplicating. The system appears sensitive to overclocking. After resetting everything, I left AI settings at defaults, ran benchmarks to confirm a baseline of 4.0GHz, then used AI Suite for further tweaks up to 4.2GHz. I reset back to factory settings (3.7GHz), adjusted DOCP, and chose the available profile with an XMP rating of 3200 CL 16. I increased the DRAM voltage to 1.35V based on prior tests, though some warn against exceeding 1.4V. The problem resolved itself, reaching a stable 4.0GHz with DDR4-3200 CL 16. After that, my GPU performance improved slightly, prompting me to test at 4.2GHz.
I overlooked mentioning that G. Skills lists my MoBo on their QVL for this DRAM kit, though Asus hasn’t updated their QVL since the release. It’s unclear if that affects compatibility. I also turned off all Asus bloatware to prevent background changes to my settings. That would have been a good idea. At least it’s now settled.
