Speeces Memory
16 gigs isn't essential anymore for games, but if you've purchased it and can't get a refund, it's a solid way to lock in your choice.
Yes and no. You mentioned a high-end GPU and likely a 1440p or 4K display. It seems reasonable you have a 32GB RAM setup now. With newer games demanding more memory, that amount is becoming the norm.
You have a 165 Hz MSI G27C6 with 1080p resolution and a GTX1660Ti. Even though you're planning to upgrade to an RX 6800 or 6800 XT, the monitor's specifications might limit compatibility.
If that applies, I’d consider buying another 32GB just in case. But I’m curious if you didn’t end up paying $150–250 for it since there are 32GB DDR5 models available for $100–130 right now. I think 16GB would be sufficient with your existing setup. Still, after upgrading your GPU and monitor, RAM could become the limiting factor. Especially if you’re into high-end AAA titles. Many games now require over 16GB at 1440p with intense graphics settings. With your 1080p and 1660 Ti, it shouldn’t be an issue yet. But once you switch to something like the 6800X or similar, it might start to matter. In games such as Cyberpunk, Hogwarts, RE:4, etc., at 1440p with high settings, you’ll likely see more than 16GB needed. Even with smooth 60fps, frame drops and lows will become noticeable.
