Spectrum and voip
Spectrum and voip
I reside in south texas and face challenges with spectrum and voip. currently, spectrum is the only competitor offering gig speed. the problem lies in needing a combo modem and a separate wifi router, but the company struggles to handle the setup. They’ve been calling for five days without progress, and only recently a tech helped me bypass the second router. I connected it directly to my peplink, achieving smooth voip with no latency. The next day, a client upgraded their gig speed, but services dropped to around 150mb. What advice do you have? Consider removing their equipment and using a third-party modem/router instead. I want spectrum to have no control over this situation. I can’t locate any images online, though spectrum installers report many complaints.
I lack experience with Spectrum but have used Comcast's phone service. From what I read, cable providers typically offer non-traditional VoIP solutions. The difficulty in switching from Spectrum comes from needing an EMT, which is the digital voice modem. Some providers supply an EMT gateway that combines modem, router, and EMT. The problem is they may only support specific EMT models. With Comcast you can simply purchase a standard cable modem, but EMTs are costly and hard to find in stores. Retail support for Comcast is limited, and using an unsupported EMT could cause your service to stop. Currently, there are no retail DOCSIS 3.1 devices available (required for Gigabit), and they're still in testing for Comcast. You might consider using Spectrum's EMT with a separate internet modem, though I'm not sure if Comcast allows this. Also, your device box seems to be problematic.
