Specs for the motherboard
I have a HP 611836-001. It's in a OEM Compaq 8200 Elite Ultra. I was able to find a list of what's compatible with the holly 2 and upgraded another pc of mine. Hours now and I can't find what I'm looking for. For not a ton of money I've just ordered a i7 2600k to replace the i3. I'm looking to find a gpu to replace the amd 109-c07751-00. It's only about 2 1/2 x 3". No luck with that so far. It would have to be better than intel hd 3000 or there's no reason to bother. I also need to know how much ram it can handle. I've seen conflicting reports. So far I ordered a ddr3 8g at 1600mhz. The cpu can handle more than that but I think it might be all the board can do. Any help appr. pls and thx.
This setup probably needs S-series processors, meaning the i7-2600K might not function well. Opt for a Core i7-2600S instead—it consumes less power and generates less heat. Given your limited hardware, managing heat is essential. Regarding the graphics card, I’m unsure how much you could improve it; the current design is an MXM model, which would restrict cooling. A Quadro M600M might work, but I don’t think spending a lot on a new GPU is worthwhile for this system.
I believed I could handle it as long as I stayed in the second generation. I switched from the 2600 to the k once I discovered it offered a better onboard GPU. I’m hoping it will function properly. I’ll need to check the specifications and compare them. It seems unlikely any separate GPU will match the built-in performance, even if it works. What configurations are being discussed? The mention of 32GB DDR3 RAM is notable—most people would likely get only 16. I think the limit is around 8, but I’ve noticed some variations there.
I received the PC for free as well. Windows 10 didn’t handle it well. I plan to bring it back to version 7 when I get newer software, since I prefer 7 more. I’m aware there aren’t any updates available for it.
The distinction lies in power efficiency and thermal performance. Your machine features a compact heatsink, making it unsuitable for K-series processors. Expect cooling challenges if the 2600K isn't compatible. Opt for a 2600S instead. Regarding storage, check if an SSD is present; if not, consider purchasing one. Modern SSDs are affordable and support Windows 10 smoothly. They also offer enhanced security compared to older versions like Windows 7. The references to "Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700..." are unrelated to your setup. This list merely outlines my hardware details—it doesn’t pertain to your system.
Software assistance will be the biggest concern with W7 because it hasn’t been updated for about a year or two since support ended. Security isn’t a priority unless you’re likely to be targeted by hackers—such as working for government or major tech companies. I’ve used several older Android versions when I was younger and managed to avoid any security issues, even running an old Android 4 or 5. You can remove some limitations on Windows 10 using certain tools and registry adjustments, and you might be able to install Windows 10 LTS, which usually includes most fixes. Long-term support is expected until around 2028, but getting a license will be difficult.
It might perform better with newer components. Just make sure they function. Appreciate your feedback.
