The standard PBO simply lifts power caps, enabling the CPU to draw more energy as needed. It also permits an additional 200MHz boost, unlike conventional overclocks that lock at a fixed point. This approach varies from typical overclocking because it adds +200MHz to the existing boost settings rather than fixing it. On the 7800X3D model, this option is more restricted compared to other Ryzen 7000 chips. AMD cites safety concerns due to the stacked V-Cache design, which generates excessive heat and could harm the CPU if pushed too far. Another aspect of PBO is Curve Optimizer (CO), a voltage adjustment method mainly for undervolting. By applying a negative voltage offset, it lowers the required voltage at specific boost levels. Unlike standard undervolting, this scaling offset adapts to actual demand, helping enhance thermal performance and stability in X3D processors while keeping power usage in check.
