Speaking for my girlfriend, here’s what I’d say:
We located the 'Asus Advanced Performance' setting in the BIOS and turned it off. That brought idle temperatures down to around 50 degrees, but they quickly rose back up to the 80s without any noticeable changes. She was getting 100% CPU in Chrome, Malware Bytes didn<|pad|>'s report nothing, and the task manager showed only Discord and a few other apps with minimal usage. Her CPU was at 21% during idle and now sitting at 70% or higher.
I'm also using an 11400f model, and temperatures are normal even on Cinebench. I have a Bequiet Pure Rock Slim 2 cooler as well. The build details can be found here: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/BMWCC6. It seems the issue might be limited by airflow or cooler pressure. At idle it stays around 42-44°C, with fans barely moving. During a long run it hit about 90°C on the final core. Running at full speed (4.2Ghz) could eventually cause throttling. Improving airflow by opening the case or upgrading the cooler might help. If you've already tried a better cooler, it suggests the problem could be ventilation rather than cooling capacity.
The issue was active when we initially tried it. Securing it hasn't worsened it, so it's unlikely the problem is still there. Appreciate the help. We're currently reinstalling Windows to see if that resolves it.
This seems like a situation better handled by @unclewebb, as he's an experienced tech expert. He probably understands the root cause and the solution. I'm still trying to figure out why it's stuck at 20% idle, maybe related to background processes or software settings. Let's try reinstalling and see what happens.
From the software perspective, it seems she's still using the original Windows 10 version from Newegg that we switched to Windows 11. That could be why the idle usage stays high.
