Space is running out!
Space is running out!
my operating system storage is a 250gb SSD. when i purchased it, i realized i was locking in my situation. but what options did i have when i didn’t have much money? Now i’m running out of space. Because it was an SSD, i only had League installed, which let me criticize others about their slow "toasters." I deleted that and more than 30gbs of videos, but they never freed up the same amount. About two days ago i managed to remove 5gbs of unnecessary files, and today i have 325mb of 231 free space. I haven’t downloaded anything to this drive. All my launchers are on other drives, and my games and browser downloads are on different ones. I’m really confused. Should i go ahead and buy a bigger drive and start over? I don’t have any good photos to share here.
Do you really remove the content, or are you moving it to the trash? The area won't become available until you clear the bin.
I've upgraded my boot drive from 120GB to 250GB and now 400GB. (All partitions came from a 1TB SSD). The 120GB partition is clearly insufficient, causing issues with file compression as it appears to move to the C drive during temporary operations. The 250GB partition feels adequate, but everything needs to be moved to another drive—just keep the OS and drivers on the C drive. The 400GB partition follows the same pattern, leaving about 310GB free out of the 400GB total. Since I had to reinstall Windows, 400GB seems ideal for me. For context, I own three 1TB SSDs.
Have you considered creating a RAM disk for temporary files? Using available RAM can be very beneficial.
I don’t have any experience, but I know 48GB RAM is great, yet a 250GB boot drive still felt like managing storage.
I use a 12GB RAM disk created with ImDisk, but Photoshop won’t recognize it as a scratch disk if it’s smaller than that. ImDisk offers dynamic allocation, which means it only uses the necessary amount of RAM at any time. The software is free, but if you prefer, switch your temporary folder back to the C drive to avoid potential issues.
When your hard drive becomes full, you don’t need to sift through File Explorer to identify space usage. A disk space analyzer can scan your drive or specific folders and reveal which files and folders are consuming storage. This helps you decide what to delete or move, freeing up space efficiently. Good luck tracking down the issue!
i built this pc from scratch and it was a bit overwhelming at first. i started with a 250gb drive and just had some basic stuff installed. over time, i added more space using other drives. i expected it to get heavy soon, so i only installed lol on it. eventually, i stopped playing that game. now the drive is completely full—252mb free space. i removed lol and deleted everything from that drive. i searched online, but most results only offer temporary fixes, like buying more space for a short time. i understand the best solution is to move windows to another drive and reset it, but i want to avoid that hassle. what options do you have?
