Everyone, I’m assembling a new PC today with a 3950x CPU and an X570 motherboard. I’ll be using my existing PSU, a Cooler Master V1200 Platunim that’s fully modular. My issue is that I don’t have the matching CPU cable from the PSU—it came with two, but I only have one now. I’m wondering if it’s possible to run this CPU with just one 8-pin cable. The PSU has an 8-pin connector, while the CPU uses a 4+4 pin header.
It can deliver 384 watts of power, something a 3950x would struggle to handle.
The one 8-pin connector delivers significantly more energy than a 3950X can extract even with optimal cooling.
Thanks for the updates. I've searched extensively for the second connector but haven't found it anywhere. I reached out to nearby microshops, but they couldn't supply any replacement cables for the Cooler master PSUs—they advised me to purchase a completely new PSU instead. My V1200 PSU has only been in use for roughly four weeks and has been mostly stored in the box for four years; it still appears in good condition except for a few missing cables.
It's unnecessary. Even at full capacity, you won't reach the 384w output from a single 8-pin EPS.
It’s not necessary for me to purchase the second CPU cable. When I mentioned it to the local computer hardware store, they thought it was crazy to consider using my old PSU in my new computer, especially since I might be missing out on one of the CPU cables. It’s been three years, and it’s only been used on an office computer for three weeks after purchase—no questions asked.
