Source games crashing pc?

I've been using a lot of Portal and often see my monitor go black while fans spin. It seems to occur in any Source Engine game I play, with this specific setup: BenQ GL2460, AMD Athlon 860k, R9 380, 4GB RAM, HyperX Fury.

I can play Borderlands 2 for long periods without issues, but with the source engine it works smoothly.
