My Source engine games keep freezing on me unexpectedly—they just crash out of nowhere, and I don’t get any error messages or warning signs beforehand. My computer specs are: an Intel i5 3570k processor, a GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, 8GB of RAM, and I’ve got a 1TB hard drive with a 256GB SSD where Windows is installed. I’m really hoping someone can offer some guidance, any suggestions would be super helpful!

After a little troubleshooting – mainly involving some driver updates – I realized my motherboard’s drivers were incredibly old. Once I updated those, the problem just disappeared on its own.

It seems like there might be something going on with the software driving this. Perhaps switching to a different version would fix it?

Hey, just checking in – is your Windows system completely current? Besides your video drivers, what other programs or updates have you installed or updated lately? Are you experiencing any issues with other games or applications you use? And to be sure, have you run a scan for malware and viruses recently?
