Great, thanks for the clarification. I plan to reduce IDE drives to check for improvements. Regarding your question, the Athlon 64 uses a single northbridge chipset, whereas the Core 2 features both northbridge and southbridge components. I’m not entirely sure, but it seems memory and PCIe are managed by the CPU, so the chipset mainly handles integrated graphics, networking, USB, and SATA.
