I'm dealing with a HyperX Cloud II and the mic has been failing on Discord recently. After testing it in Audacity, the recording suddenly drops during "aaaaaa" tests, though normal speech works. I've switched USB ports, adjusted Discord voice settings, and even disabled Windows sound controls, but nothing helps. It seems the volume reduction might be the issue. I'm unsure how to resolve this.
Open Control Panel, navigate to Sound/Audio settings, select the final tab, and disable the feature that lowers volume upon detecting a communication app.
Is the headset included with software for tweaking options? Have you looked through it? Sometimes a small update can unlock new features. To confirm other points: Is Nvidia broadcast set up? What device is your default input device for in Windows settings? For clarity, could you share a screenshot of Audacity showing the input area?
Nvidia Broadcast isn't set up by default. The default mic used is the HyperX Headset microphone (see screenshot attached). I should note I attempted a driver update and restarted the PC, but it didn't resolve the issue.
You verified the headset software settings, too. It looks like a noise-canceling feature might be activated somewhere.
I didn't notice you relying on that outdated "soundcard" with the headset, which degrades the audio. Most users opt for a 4-pole to 2 3-pole Y splitter and link it to a better source like an internal device, a quality soundcard, or even an amplifier/dac. The "HyperX usb dongles" tend to fail quickly, as the first generation was meant for anyone claiming their USB adapter failed. If you really want to boost the headset's audio, connect it elsewhere. Even inexpensive options are available online.
You might be correct about the overall performance, but it doesn't fully address their concern. Until recently it performed well for them now it's acting differently. I also question whether most users follow your advice. In reality, many just rely on the included dongle. Of course, swapping in a different USB sound card could fix the problem, but it would cost money or involve waiting a long time while hoping for your recommendation and possibly still paying import duties. @nope_ Can you access the hyperX software? I assume it's already installed and the issue is somewhere within it.
