On my Wi-Fi connection Sophos firewall is active, which affects internet performance. Some applications and sites like Tictoc run smoothly at high speeds, while tests indicate only about 10 Mbps. I need to understand why this happens. Can I take advantage of this to improve the speed of other downloads?

Have you checked if Quality of Service is activated on the firewall?

Likely yes, speed on this site is much faster compared to other websites.

It’s likely we should review the QoS configurations and tweak them if necessary

You can't bypass network restrictions directly, but there are workarounds like using a proxy or VPN to access faster speeds. Always check your provider's policies first.

No, the Sophos firewall remains within your management and control.

Then no, you cannot exploit this loophole. The QoS (Quality of Service) sounds like it's throttling certain sites/services, and not others, based on need. You could try buying a VPN, and sneaking under that way, but no guarantees of success, and depending on where you are, most VPN services have a steep performance hit

There might be various factors influencing connection speeds. QoS is one aspect, but packet inspection could also play a role. If the firewall isn’t managed by you, the only options are typically using a VPN, though this goes against school or workplace security rules that I don’t support.
