I've been working on upgrading my dad's computer for a week now, but things are really tricky. The issue feels strange and hard to explain after replacing the whole motherboard and CPU. The machine starts up without any sign of life. I watched tutorials about getting it to boot again. First, I removed the CMOS battery for a few minutes and put it back—still nothing. Then I took out four RAM sticks, tried one that worked in one slot, but it didn’t work in others. That gave me a small win. After that, I connected the SSD to test if Windows would recognize it, but it still wouldn’t boot. I changed the power supply, but nothing seemed to fix the problem. When I only used the SATA cable and didn’t plug in the SSD, it started working every time. I tried turning off the CPU, unplugging the HDD light (which caused a short), swapping the GPU slot, and even just removing the SSD—still no luck. The CPU is an AMD FX6300, the GPU is GTX 970, and the board is MSI 970A-G43. I’m still confused and need some guidance.

Did you remove the board from the case? There could be a hidden component behind the motherboard leading to a short circuit.
