It would always be an issue when updating, but it's worth it for the 16GB storage.

The EFI firmware upgrade happens only once during a fresh Mac installation. It triggers a loud beep and displays a lengthy, traditional progress indicator.

It turns out I was correct after all. Fascinating. However, I didn’t rebuild it from the beginning. It came preloaded with 10.13.5… possibly Apple just dropped a new firmware version.

I haven’t seen a fresh entry, yet multiple methods might prevent updates from taking effect, resulting in 10.13.5. A different person could have taken a snapshot, for instance.
